Disability inclusion remains a key pillar in building a just and compassionate society. As the world marks World Disability Day ON 3RD December 2025, organizations supporting initiatives to embrace disability including Optiven Foundation, continue to shine a light on what true empowerment looks like. The 2025 theme is "Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress." Through the Optiven Foundation, the organization has remained a champion for vulnerable groups, especially persons living with disabilities. Ann Nyaga, the Cordinator at the Optiven Foundation says, “as we celebrate World Disability Day, Optiven reminds us that true impact is measured not in words but in changed lives.” Her sentiments are echoed by the Chairman and Founder of the Optiven Foundation, Dr. George Wachiuri who says, “the foundation has been able to provide brand new wheelchairs for persons living with disabilities across the counties – from Kisumu to Kilifi and in between.   My desire to succeed in life was inspired mostly by my upbringing. We were born in a peasant family in the slopes of Mount Kenya, a county known as Kirinyaga. Our family was poor, but I salute my Dad Mr. Jeremiah and my late Mum Mama Alice Jeremiah, may she rest in peace. Irrespective of the hardships of bringing three children without a formal job, they were reputed small scale farmers. They used to sell horticultural seedlings to earn a daily bread.  Many are the days we slept hungry when the seedlings couldn’t move. But, that never made us give up, instead it was a stepping stone to my strong faith and desire to succeed. During my younger years, my dad used to take me to Sacco meetings and cooperative forums where he would enroll for saving schemes and buying shares. The small sacrifices he made back then was part of what supported him take us to higher education. Success in life is coupled with a lot of sacrificing.
